If you’ve been through Greektown lately, you’ve probably noticed the construction. But big changes are on the way — and they’re shaping up to be worth the wait.

Branded as “A New Greektown: Honoring History, Embracing the Future,” the project aims to transform Monroe Street into a more walkable, people-first space. The four-block stretch will soon feature wider sidewalks, added greenery, flexible curb-less lanes, and infrastructure designed to support both everyday foot traffic and larger events.

While we wait for the full vision to come to life, it’s important to note: all the businesses in Greektown are still open, and the sidewalks remain walkable. So whether you’re grabbing a bite at a favorite spot or just passing through, it’s still very much worth the visit.

Location: Monroe Street, Greektown, Detroit

Project Theme: Walkability, community, and honoring cultural heritage
Status: In progress — but vibrant as ever
